Old Cycle Ends NOW
I also started thinking about it. What Blaine and I eat Ashlyn and Kinsley eat too. They are gonig to continue with the bad habbits that I have now. The other day Ashlyn had her own can of soda and that really grossed me out. Come on she is 2 years old and doesn't need to be putting that filth in her little body. That is not what I want for my girls, I don't want to be the one to blame for them having health problems and being over weight if I can help it. . . . . . . Let us all break the Old Cycle
Blaine and I both started our diet yesterday. We may not be able to lose the 10 percent before dec. 31st but we will try our hardest. Whatever weight we lose we will be happy about because we are that much skinner than what we started out in the beginning. :)

Contraction & Expansion
Simple decisions that seemed innocent changed the course of my week. Simple decisions have potential to change the course of our lives. We all have a loaded gun - everyday. The chamber is loaded with an arsenal of destruction. If we pull the trigger the destruction can be subtle or immediate, but there will always be a consequence. Unfortunately, we rarely get to choose the consequence of our actions.

Finding that motivation
I kinda wanted to share my opinion for helping some people find their motivation to stick with the weightloss challenge. I think you need to find a motivator. Its okay if your motivation is a vacation, new clothes, a new job, health benefits, yadda yadda... choose what motivates you the most and focus on that. For me, the best motivational tool I have is my best friend Jeremy. We have a common goal, and when one of us is feeling discouraged, we lift eachother up. I would suggest confiding in someone within your household. When your friends and family are on board and willing to help and keep you encouraged, it makes a world of difference.
For me, when I just feel crummy and don't want to make dinner or lunch, Jeremy steps in and just does it. We have not eaten out lately and it's paid off. I've noticed that some of us are having a hard time doing a weightloss regime because of the lack of money to buy the "correct" groceries. Dont fret about that!! You can still eat low calorie on a very strict diet. What works for me or Jeremy or Sam or Amy is different from Ange or Ben or Rod or Vennette. On a tight budget still eat what you need, but eat less of it. Have one serving, instead of two.
I have a hard time with the word "diet". I think what would be a better word would be " life change". Because we are teaching ourselves the right way to live... lower calories, more exercise, self discipline... its not what a "diet" entails. I want us all to challenge ourselves in the weeks to come. Lets think about changing our perspectives about food. We eat to live, not live to eat! Lets tell ourselves everyday "I am amazing. I am doing what is best for my body. I am in charge of myself."
Self motivation is an incredible tool, but by gaining the compassion and help of family and friends; I know we can all do this!! I support everyone! And if you are feeling discouraged, just remember we are re-teaching our bodies and minds how to get healthy and stay healthy!!
Cheers!

Only 65 days left in the year!
Since no one else is posting, so I guess I will. October is almost over! That means you only have two months to lose 10% of your body weight. That is really not a whole lot of time, but definitely still do-able! I want to encourage everyone to remove any obstacles that stand in your way. Think about what is holding you back and remove it from your life (if you can). If your obstacle can not be removed (eg spouse, parties, temptations, etc) then you will have to figure out how to live with it.
Something that has really helped keep me motivated is starting a streak. This may be # of days you did well on your specific diet or days you worked out. Think how great you will feel if by the end of the year you have a 64 day streak of some sort.
Only 2 more days till weigh-in. Kick it in gear!

Why do you want to lose weight?
For me, I was just tired of talking about losing 30 pounds, but never really doing anything about it. When we came up with the 12 week challenge I really liked the idea of losing this weight before the end of the year. I am sure it has been my new years resolution for like 6-7 years now. On December 31, I want to be able to say that I accomplished what I set out to do.
Another reason why I also am wanting to lose weight is that I am not getting any younger and working with the elderly reminds me, on a daily basis, how important it is to take care of yourself. Before you know it, you will be 60. For me I want to enjoy retirement. I want to play with my kids and grand-kids and travel the world. I dont want to restrict myself by dealing with health issues that are a consequence of poor decisions that I made years prior.
What is your motivation? Post in the comments below.

Zion Hike 2 of 2
Figured out the problem with commenting...
If you are having trouble commenting, are you using internet explorer? Cause I use Google Chrome usually and I just tried it with explorer and it wouldn't let me comment. Firefox works too. So, I would suggest trying Chrome or firefox. Using the browser on the cell phones seems to work as well. I am sorry this is such a pain in the tooshie! Hope this helps.
My Week 2 Goals
What is your goal for the week?
I would like to lose 5 lbs (so 222 by Sunday). That would be my lowest weight in years! I am going to stick with the Subway diet (6" at Lunch/6" at Dinner). I am also planning on doing a protein/veggie shake in the morning. That should keep me around 1000 calories per day.
I figure my BMR is about 3000 cal/day. See the link below to figure yours.
http://www.muscleandstrength.com/tools/bmr-and-daily-calorie-calculator.html
I should be able to burn 2000 cal/day without any exercise. So, I should be able to lose 4 lbs this week by diet alone.
To figure this out...
2000 cal/day x 7 days=14000 calories burned/week just be eating less
then 14000/3500=4 lbs
(FYI 3500 calories burned should equal one pound of weight loss).
If I can just burn 500 cal/day through exercise I should reach my 5 lb weight loss!

Week One
Now that I have this thing working I will give a quick summary of my first week.
Monday: started out great with eating all the foods I should on a semi low carb/ low calorie diet.
Tuesday: not so great
Wednesday: not so great
Thursday: started out great but ended with ice cream
Friday: did real well
Saturday: not so great (cheese fries and ice cream for dinner)
Sunday: so far so good (eggs with cheese, ham, onion, green pepper, hot sauce for breakfast, 2 hard boiled eggs, 1 cup cottage cheese and a scoop of whipped cream (50 calories/ 4 carbs in 2 Tbsp).
So it was not a so serious week for me, but I am motivated (nice job Desire and Sam). Tonight for dinner homemade chili (Desire your Chili looked so good I have been wanting to make some). Anyway starting tomorrow the excercise is coming into the picture.
Oh and one more thing, everyone should measure yourselves. I enjoy seeing the inches come off as well as the weight on the scale get lower. It is exciting.
Hope this works

I am in amazement with what just setting your mind to accomplish a goal can do. We've been really sticking with it and it's making a big difference. It's fun to do this with the family. Lets keep up the good work!!

Starting strong
Welcome!
At this point, I hope all of you are ecstatic (to say the least) about the 12 Week Seymour (Davis, Rogers, and Graves) Weightless Challenge. I feel that it is important to lay out the details to make sure that we are all on the same page. For starters, the challenge will run a total of 12 weeks from Sunday October 9-Saturday December 31.
Since we will not be getting together anytime soon just use your own scale, but make sure to use the same scale for the entire duration of the contest. Also, if you weigh in with clothes on subtract the weight of your clothes.
Now for the motivation. Each of us need to determine a WIN gift and a LOSS consequence. The WIN gifts will be awarded to the individual with the highest % loss and must be equivalent to $50. This gift does not need to be money. For example, you may choose $50 of service, a home-made gift, or a crisp $50 bill. Get creative, but try to have these gifts be meaningful. We obviously wont know who will be the winner so plan on making this gift non-specific.
The LOSS consequence will be something that you will dread if you do not reach a 10% reduction in body weight (if you weigh 300lbs you will need to lose 30 lbs to make a 10% dent in your body weight). The final LOSS consequences will be carried out at final weigh-in on December 31 (New Years Eve) at Mom/Dad's house 9pm.
Ideally, your LOSS consequence can be carried out like a death sentence (swiftly and publicly), but that may not be what motivates you. Decide on something that you would dread. Remember that if you meet your 10% loss you do not need to carry out your LOSS consequence you can just be a by-stander and laugh at those less fortunate, but everyone will need to come prepared with a WIN gift for the overall winner.
Sam
